#4202 Very long, colorful Boys Day festival banner (nobori), portraying the old couple Jo and Uba, representing longevity and marital harmony.
The upper section has two wide bars and a large bold sakura blossom family crest (kamon). Below are a pair of flying cranes, the sun rising over water, large pine boughs, the couple, and an old turtle with bushy tail (symbol of long life) at the bottom; all brightly represented using the traditional tsutsugaki rice paste resist dying method.
The smiling grandfather stands, bestowing his blessings, rake in hand; and grandmother stands ever on duty, with her broom.
Colors are very bright on both sides, a little better one side. All one piece of cotton, loops along one side and top for attaching to a pole. Very good condition, no holes or tears; but some discoloration, and wrinkled overall; and a larger discolored area above the crest. 24' 8"L x 27"w. C.1950 . . . $150
