Thank you for visiting Ki Antiques.
I've been involved with Asian antiques, primarily Japanese items, for over 30 years.
I've greatly enjoyed this field of endeavor, and have had the opportunity to visit Japan many times to explore, study, and hunt up interesting old items.
My travels in Japan have usually centered around Kyoto, one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in the world. It is also one of the major antique centers in Japan.
In addition to the study and appreciation of Asian art and antiques, I've also always been engaged in the repair and restoration of the old items acquired in Japan, and still get a lot of satisfaction seeing old, worn, faded pieces regain their lost beauty and spirit.
We always try to preserve the natural look and feel of our items. When working with wood, we never sand any of our pieces, if at all possible. The top surface of the wood lost in sanding - the weathering, the wear, the small flaws, the patina - carries much of the uniqueness, history, and natural beauty of the piece.
We generally don't do restoration work for others, but will always be happy to discuss your project with you, and offer what advice we can.
We look forward to hearing from you, and what you may be looking for, or thinking, wondering about.
Several years ago we decided to take a hiatus from the antique business and closed our warehouse (and have since been working on the restoration of an antique house.) However, I've missed working with the antiques, and all the people met over the years; and am now very happy to be starting up again.
We are planning to find a warehouse space, but for now are making do with several storage locations.
You are very welcome to come by our temporary location to see any items you might be interested in. Please contact us to arrange a visit.
