#1515 Large furoshiki with very large, bold design of an auspicious bundle of seaweed and blossoms, white on a deep indigo background. Hand dyed tsutsugaki cotton fabric.
A furoshiki is a square fabric piece traditionally used to wrap and transport clothes, gifts, or other goods.
On reverse is a label identifying the piece as the work of Sasakura Gensho, a well known textile artist based in Kobe, Japan. In 1983 he won the Osaka Prefectural Governor Prize for his devotion and achievement in reproducing traditional Edo Period motifs. A beautiful mingei artwork, and unique wall hanging.
