#1413  Large blue and white vase, with a celestial phoenix on each side, finely detailed, wings spread, tail feathers swirling through clouds; the immortal heavenly beings with one mouth open, one closed,"ahh" and "omm", the beginning and the end.

          In Asian cultures the phoenix is a symbol of high virtue and grace; originally both male and female, but recently (the last 600 years) has become a symbol of femininity.

         Detailed brocade patterns and scrolling around neck. All hand painted in great detail, full coverage.  A few minor lines in the glaze, around the neck where the glaze separated slightly in the kiln - hardly noticeable, see photos below; overall excellent condition. 23.5"h x 14"diam. C.1900 . . . $690
