#7108   Large stoneware figure of Tanuki (a badger-dog indigenous to Japan), one of the most beloved folk tale characters in Japan, and a staple of the Shigaraki kilns. 35"h x 17"w x 13"d. Excellent condition. A very mischievous and magical figure in folk tales, now a welcoming presence everywhere. Wearing a large straw hat, he carries a walking stick, sake bottle, and an account book - he always keeps track of what he owes, but can never pay.  C.1980 . . . $750
